Another week goes by another list of DVD and Blu Ray releases. I know we haven't posted much lately, just know we are hard at work on our podcast, soon we'll be uploading one...wish us luck...
I always love a good mystery but I'm not sure Dead Awake is, 'cause it has a really lame name.
But it does have a delightful cast of B-D list actors!
Nick Stahl (John Conner from Terminator 3), Rose McGowan (the substitute sister after Shannen Doherty in Charmed), and Amy Smart (that girl from The Butterfly Effect).
I always get surprised when they put classics on Blu Ray, I don't know if its because I feel that its not the same as on VHS or that I feel the picture won't look any better.
Anyway...The Ten Commandments if you haven't see it before, see it now!
Speaking of classics...Antony and Cleopatra is one of Shakespeare's histories adapted, directed, and starring Charlton Heston.
Again, something you should watch!
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (Films 1-3)...honestly, I didn't know there was a 3rd.
Another amazing classic! I honestly don't know (or care) how old a film has to be to be considered a "classic" but this one is most definitely one in my book.
If only I could have this one and My Best Friend Is A Vampire I would be set for life.
Its strange...I only remember 2 movies, I didn't know there was 4.
Girls, Guns, and G-Strings I'm guessing these are not films about female FBI agents who play the up-right bass.
I'm sure there is a market for movies like these...I am not that market.
I love a spooky story just as much as the next girl, but what makes this one so interesting (besides the ridiculous cover) is that its called: Resident Randy's Ghost Stories. SOLD!
Finally!
I've been saying that I need more MJF and now I've got it!
I'm defiantly going to buy this to help me complete my Michael J. Fox discography!
So not a very exciting week...Tonight the boys and I are working on another podcast (after a 3 and 1/2 hour drive back home), hopefully this one will be good enough to post!
Good news for you NBC fans, (I know this is a little late) Community has be renewed for another season.
The show was on the chopping block but they have officially brought it back for another season!
I'm not a huge fan (it's a bit too silly for me) but every now and then, I need to get a little Joel McHale fix if The Soup didn't air or my DVR was too full to record it.
Also, Parks and Recreation has also recieved the OK!
Again, not a show I'm extremely fond of, but I still really like it.
I'm glad its not gone yet, but there are shows on other networks that I'm sad to see leave.
Ronald D. Moore of the great Battlestar Galactica Reboot has recently lost the spin off project, Caprica. That being said, the team behind Battlestar is still bringing us one more hopefully thread to carry on that frack-tackingly awesome legacy with "Blood & Chrome" a new upcoming miniseries/pilot.
That is all well and good, but as a rather large fan of Battlestar, i think perhaps its time has come. The show was fantastic, Caprica while enthralling, was unable to be the powerhouse that its precursor had been. My thoughts as to why such a unique show was canceled comes down to one thing. That magical element that allowed Battlestar Galactica to become what it was, was two things. Writing and Acting. It wasn't the sci-fi folks.
Although, Ronald D. Moore seems to agree with this hypothesis it would seem, rece
ntly during my scavenging throughout the intranet, I found what could quite possibly be the saving grace for any and all Battlestar addicts.
The show: 17th Precinct
The Cast: Jamie Bamber- Caolan Longstreet
James Callis- John
Tricia Helfer- Morgana
What is known:
Basically, Caprica 6 has returned to the screen as Morgana, a sexy, necromancing lady.
Baltar is back, and now he is a gruffy detective named John.
And then we have Apollo back on screen and perhaps leaving his insanely strong Brit accent as Caolan Longstreet...crime scene investigator in the Magical realm of the 17th Precinct.
This month's log will be a rant of the most random, I assure you. In my travels I tend to stray away from the "online video" craze, and yet, one cannot help but be forced at times to succumb to the temptation or invitation to do so.
With that, here are a few websites, videos or just areas of the internet i feel everybody should see.
How perfect is this. If you don't "get it" then you most likely do not know Frank Herbert's Dune, for shame. If you ARE familiar with Dune (starring Kyle MacLachlan, Brad Dourif, and Sting) then why haven't you clicked already! And yes you noobs that don't know Dune, i said Sting is in the film. WATCH IT.
Next up, a new spin on Japanese Theatrical presentation. CHECK THIS OUT. Quite possibly the best online video the internet has to offer.
Next up is a Cat Video, and whatever its pretty damn funny.
Notable watches of the week:
Critters
It's actually a pretty great movie, with a pretty great cast (Dee Wallace & M. Emmet Walsh). Tiny little aliens porcupines come to Earth and reek havok on everyone in a small town. What more could you ask for in a horror movie premiss?
Oh and we see shape changing alien bounty hunters in the film as well, just for that added realism.
Nevertheless Critters 2-4 still remain to be seen, something tells me, it is going to happen.
Video Game Purchases:
Pokemon White, is hands down the best Pokemon game I have ever played. The game mechanics have been taken up to a more cinematic style. The graphics are impeccable considering the genuine lack of change to the standard formula present throughout the years. Also, the new Pokemon for this newest Pokemon game (and counterpart Pokemon Black) are well thought out, well designed, and engrossingly intruiging. If you like Pokemon, and miss the good old gameboy color days, just go out and buy it.
Recent online store purchase:
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood New Downloadable Content!
Just purchased, haven't played.
Let's do this.
KEEP CHECKING OUT THE NEWS BUSTERS FOR MORE ON EVERYTHING NERDY!
Outer space + Morgan Freeman = Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman brought by The Science Channel.
I don't know why I haven't watched this yet!
Exit Through the Gift Shop is a documentary about a crazy Frenchman who decides to become an artist and call himself "Mr. Brainwash" and befriend infamous street artist Banksy.
Banksy, however, does not see the dude as a friend.
Honestly, the artwork is pretty unoriginal, its like he is just redoing all of Andy Warhol's work, but it was a pretty funny documentary and it's on Netflix Instant right now.
Don't know. Don't care.
Zombie Farm. I just love the name.
This 1982 horror film, The Dorm that Dripped Blood, is about a group of people who are getting together to demolish an old dorm building but they are being hunted down by a serial killer.
IMDB gave it a 3.9 out of possible 10, which to me spells: INCREDIBLE.
I must see this beast.
Adventures of a Teenage Dragon Slayer has an amazing title, one that got my notice...however the synopsis give on IMDB was not something that really gets me going but here it is, if your interested:
"Arthur unwittingly discovers the secret to stopping an evil dragon who threatens to destroy all civilization."
GET IT!!!!
The Walking Dead Season 1, this show is amazing! The acting is perfect, the makeup is amazing, and the extras casting was simply superb!
Honestly great show, I want this BluRay partly because I want to see the special features!
Alright, so another week over, another set of DVD releases. I know other stuff comes out too, like last week 127 Hours was released but any old website can tell you that.
Another week, another batch of DVDs and BluRays...
The Canterville Ghost(1996) is an "adaption of the famous Oscar Wilde tale about a young American girl that helps a British ghost find rest and forgiveness," according to IMDB.
To be honest, I've never seen it, but now I wish I had! It stars Sir Patrick Stewart and Neve Campbell, I bet its wonderful!
It'll be add to my Netflix Queue later.
Yes! Bambi is on BluRay!
Did you know:
-That the character listed as "Man" who killed Bambi's mother is listed #20 on AFI's top 100 Villians? -The original nitrate negative of the film is kept in the Library of Congress! -That there is about 1,000 words total in the entire script?
Sorry about that, I just love trivia...buy it!
Alive! Is Michael Jackson Really Dead? Oh God, please...
Yes, released today is a Documentary explaining how he apparently faked his death...I don't see how credible this is though...just go to Youtube and see how bad the trailer is.
No, not "its so bad its good!"...it's just bad.
The Prince of Pop is dead...get over it.
This movie needs no introduction. If you have never seen The Cable Guy then go out and get it NOW!
There is nothing more I can say...it's perfect.
Dr. Black and Mr. Hyde (1976) is the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde...only with African Americans...
I have never seen this movie, but it was give a 4.6 out of a possible 10 on IMDB which only spells BRILLIANCE to me, so I'm sure I'd love it.
The tag-line for the film: "A screamin' demon rages inside, turnin' him into Mr Hyde... don't give him no sass or he'll kick yo' ass!"
